Project Management

Tim Mills lectures at the Harvard Extension School on project management and has been a professional project manager for over thirty years. Mills is a retired Lt. Colonel in the US Air Force, where he managed acquisition, testing, development, and implementation of fighter aircraft, telecommunications, and ballistic missile programs. While in the Air Force, Mills was the logistics program manager for the US Onsite Inspection Agency for the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty. Mills provided logistics project management strategies to the US State Department, National Security Agency, and Central Intelligence Agency for the USA/USSR INF treaty onsite verification program. Mills' project team was awarded the Secretary of Defense Superior Management Award. Mills is on the board of directors for the 3HO Foundation and is a project management consultant and educator. He is a recognized expert in global project management, managing projects in the VUCA environment, project portfolio management, and creating effective enterprise project management offices (PMOs). Mills has created global PMOs for Lahey Health, Sutter Health, Interactive Data Corporation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, the city of Boston, and the California Public Employees' Retirement System. Mills led various global programs and projects with KPMG Consulting and IBM Global Services, where he focused on information technology strategic and e-commerce projects for multiple industry sectors. He has been a university-level educator in business management, strategy, operations management, and project management for California State University, Sacramento, and Northeastern University. Mills is a PMI-certified project management professional (PMP), certified scrum master (CSM), and an active member of the Massachusetts Bay chapter and PMO Global Alliance, where he has been selected to be a judge for the PMO Global Awards.
