This course provides an introduction to the field of nonprofit fundraising, also called development or advancement. It is designed for nonprofit executives and managers who are unfamiliar with development, professionals wishing to transition into the nonprofit sector, individuals seeking to get a start in the fundraising field, and others. It covers annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation fundraising, events, and crowdfunding. Topics include case statements, capital campaigns, ethics, donor motivations, fundraising challenges, volunteers, stewardship, and how to make an ask. While some attention is paid to international fundraising, the overwhelming emphasis of this course is on development practices for nonprofit organizations in the United States. The rising impact of artificial intelligence and virtual reality also receive considerable attention.
