Poetry at the End of the World
Harvard Extension School
ENGL E-192
Section 1
CRN 26666
In this era of global environmental degradation—what we are growing accustomed to calling the later Anthropocene—many poets have turned their attention to the subject of human kinship and interdependency with the non-human world. And in this course, we read a number of poets, from the early twentieth century to the present, from A.R. Ammons to Ada Limón, whose poems insist on a different way—on an ecological way—of seeing and talking about nature. This course may interest not only poetry enthusiasts but students of the environmental humanities more broadly: sustainability, literature, history, theater, and creative writing.
