As the media landscape continues to shift, podcasting has evolved to become one of the most popular, accessible, and engaging ways to reach audiences. With their low barrier to entry, podcasts provide everything from news to drama to comedy and beyond for listeners around the world. Podcasting is a competitive space, but this course provides everyone from newcomers to experienced producers with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to create podcasts that stand out. We examine shows like This American Life, The Daily, Louder Than a Riot, and The Mel Robbins Podcast and identify what makes them tick. Weekly assignments prepare students to create the pilot episode of a podcast series on a topic of their choice; they also create a plan for developing and pitching the series.
