This course initially looks at Seamus Heaney as a fulcrum between post-W.B. Yeats Irish poetry and recent poetry on the island. The course covers significant events in Irish poetic history from the War of Independence through to the Troubles and post-Troubles. We would look at writers like Eavan Boland, Stephen Sexton, Doireann Ní Ghríofa, Michael Longley, Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, Tom Paulin, Sinéad Morrissey, and Ciaran Carson.
