Begin Registration
This course covers a broad range of nonfiction filmmaking and op-ed journalism. Students in this course study the wide scope of this medium and make a refined rough cut of their own film by the end of the course. We watch films like Sans Soleil and The Beaches of Agnès that display the foundations of the essay film format; we also screen a variety of videos featured on The New Yorker and The New York Times' Op-Docs strand. Practical assignments center on using audio, photography, and video to explore the possibilities of crafting the op-ed in the motion picture medium.
