This course examines decision-making through the lens of business strategy across three critical phases: the past, present, and future. In the first segment, we journey back in time to scrutinize historical business decisions. We analyze pivotal moments like Apple's groundbreaking introduction of the iPhone and Sony's launch of the PlayStation gaming console. Through lively debates and deep dives into the context surrounding these decisions, we uncover valuable insights into their effectiveness and the factors influencing their outcomes. Next, we shift our focus to the present, dissecting contemporary business decisions with a critical eye. We explore examples such as Aramco's strategic investments in renewable energy and Microsoft's bold push into artificial intelligence. Through rigorous analysis and open dialogue, we evaluate the potential impacts of these decisions and engage in thought-provoking discussions on whether they represent the right strategic moves for the companies involved. In the final leg of our course, we peer into the future, anticipating the decisions that companies will need to make. We explore Spotify's potential expansion into video content and exclusive podcasting and The Honest Company's strategy for diversifying its product lines. Drawing on current trends and emerging market dynamics, we collectively envision optimal avenues for these companies to expand further, providing a glimpse into the strategic landscape that lies ahead.
