Work is more than what we do; it shapes who we are and who we may become. Whether competing at the highest level, managing people and leading a company, caring for a loved one, or learning to live with health challenges, pressures that drive success can also lead to strain. This course explores how to grow while sustaining well-being, balancing high performance with resilience and remaining true to our values and ourselves—for us and for those in our care. In this multidisciplinary course, we explore the dynamic intersection of performance and resilience, drawing on insights from neuroscience, psychology, management, sports, the military, and the arts to address the tensions between achieving excellence and maintaining balance. Students engage with conceptual material and apply it to real-world challenges through rigorous discussions, case studies, group and individual exercises, and reflections on their experiences. Students also learn from guest speakers from different disciplines, ranging from musicians, athletes, and founders to doctors and first responders.
