Introduction to Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (Lab)

Casey Roehrig teaches introductory biology in the premedical program and has taught introductory through graduate-level courses at Harvard College and in the Harvard Extension School. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology from New York University, where she studied plant biology, then came to Harvard University, where her PhD research focused on the genetics of animal development in the nematode C. elegans. After graduating, Roehrig taught in the undergraduate life sciences program at Harvard College, where her work focused on developing new, engaging, hands-on learning opportunities that allow students to apply what they learn in class to learn about themselves. Today, she works in the office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning, developing courses that use more scalable solutions to increase student engagement, and making them accessible to participants beyond the walls of Harvard.

Dr. Lorenzo Gesuita earned his bachelor's degree in biological sciences and his master's degree in biology from the University of Milano Bicocca in Italy. After a short research internship at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, he moved to Switzerland, where he completed his PhD in neuroscience at the Brain Research Institute of the University of Zurich in 2022. Gesuita's graduate work focused on revealing the cellular and molecular determinants of brain development, with a specific interest in the maturation of inhibitory cells in the neocortex. Gesuita is passionate about teaching and science communication. In 2022, he created The Beautiful Brain, an original web series that retraces key steps of brain development using art masterpieces as analogies. Outside the lab, he has extensive experience as an art director and producer of theatrical shows. In 2023, he joined Harvard Medical School as the Curriculum Fellow for the Graduate Program in Genetics and Genomics, working to help fulfill its educational mission.
