In era of instant digital news delivery, distinctive feature and enterprise reporting are what set top-tier journalists and news organizations apart. In this course, students learn to write evocative in-depth feature stories, using specialized techniques of narration and character development that stretch the journalistic form and maximize impact while still economizing words. Students learn how to write in-depth articles without getting lost in the weeds and how to maintain balance and fairness even when writing about charismatic individuals and contentious topics. Students are expected to do their own original reporting and writing and to share this work in class.
