Elementary Japanese II

Ikue Shingu is a Japanese language teaching professional who has taught elementary Japanese at the Harvard Extension School since 2020. Previously, she served as Preceptor in Japanese at Harvard University (2012-20) and has taught at the Harvard Summer School (2013-2020). She received her BS in food science and technology from Kyoto University and MA in Japanese language and pedagogy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Prior to Harvard, she taught Japanese language as a full-time lecturer at various US institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, the State University of New York at Binghamton, and Middlebury College Summer Language School. Shingu has been named the recipient of the 2024 Harvard Extension School Carmen S. Bonanno Excellence in Foreign Language Teaching Award. While teaching as Preceptor, she was awarded the Certificate of Teaching Excellence from Harvard University for 15 consecutive semesters. She is also the director of the Kansai Dialect Self-Study website for Japanese language learners, funded by the Consortium of Language Teaching and Learning.
