View Course Details
This is a television writing course centered on the experience of working in a writers room. The writers room is perhaps the single biggest factor in the huge success of television as an art form over the last three decades. This course is designed to give students hands-on experience of working in a TV writers room to design and write a TV show. Students are broken into groups; each group chooses a different TV series to focus on. Taking the pilot episode of their show as the launch pad, each group's task for the duration of the course is to work together to beat out an alternative story outline for the entire first season of the show. Each group also writes the full script for an alternative second episode for the show. Some course time is devoted to lecture and discussion; the rest is devoted to students working in simulated writers rooms on their material.
