Interactive Media: Creating with Motion, Sound, and Live Data
DGMD E-43
Section 1
CRN 27263
This course explores interaction as both a creative and computational framework for digital media design. Students develop projects that respond to motion, sound, live data streams, video input, and gesture, using code as a medium for building browser-based experiences. Working in JavaScript with p5.js and related tools, students investigate animation systems, generative art, pixel-level video manipulation, audio analysis, application programming interfaces (APIs), and machine learning models with libraries such as ml5.js. Emphasis is placed on event-driven programming, computational thinking, and translating media concepts into structured interactive logic. Through a series of hands-on explorations, students experiment with different forms of media input, culminating in a final project that synthesizes multiple interaction modalities into a cohesive work.
