Thomas A. Underwood has taught at the Harvard Extension School for more than two decades. He retired as a Master Lecturer in the College of Arts and Sciences Writing Program, which he cofounded at Boston University in 1998. He is the recipient of the Arthur G. B. Metcalf Cup and Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Boston University's highest teaching honor. For his work at Harvard College, he earned more than a dozen citations from the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. He is also recipient of the Harvard Extension School's James E.
